6 Things Rails Newbies Should Know

When I started developing in Rails, I couldn’t add two numbers without my hands! It was my first foray into programming. So you could say I really struggled to understand the “Rails Magic”. How are params automagically passed? What are these instance variables that seem to crop out of nowhere? What is this helper, cause I sure as hell could use some! But as time passed on, I realized that a computer really isn’t magical at all, it just seems to be, and so was Rails.

So when we expanded, a major part of my time was dedicated to help people demystify Rails magic and follow best practices. At our latest NerdChat, which we have every Wednesday, I decided to talk about a few things that used to confuse me when I started out. Turns out having the same struggles really brings people together!
